A POTTERS’ ISLAND ON THE RIVER OF KINGS

An ideal half DAY TOUR in BANGKOK for those that want to experience an island known for their craftsmanship. Located at less than 15 Km Northwards BANGKOK in the middle of the River of King. This island seems to resist to modes, time, infrastructure and urbanization… One can walk around the island on a total distance inferior to 10 Km, or one can also hire bicycles and bike it around. The main feature of Kred Island (Koh Kred) is that it is populated by a community of Mons (Ethnic originally from Myanmar). They are skilled craftsmen and the island and close vicinity were literally invaded by potters’ workshops. Nowadays, workshops are less numerous than in the past, but one still can see the big traditional bricks ovens that once upon a time cooked local handmade pots If the island is not active as it was, it remains though a sanctuary of quietness where Bangkokians come during the weekend to enjoy its rural atmosphere. Few Westerners use to frequent Koh Kred and thus it has remained authentically Thai.
