WILDLIFE, VINEYARDS & KHMER RUINS… SURPRISING THAI COUNTRYSIDE

            The 1st highlight of this program is the Khmer temple ‘PRASAT HIN PHIMAI’ which is a pearl of Khmer architecture built in Thailand. The mighty Khmer empire of ‘Angkor’ was far bigger than Cambodia. Many temples were built outside Cambodia and the most beautiful ones can be visited in Thai Isan region… We will bring you to a superb and elegant temple which was built in a pale pink stone by the end of the 11th century. . It was built in the 11 or 12 and located at the end of the highway linking this important Khmer city to the capital Angkor…

The 2nd highlight of this program is the famous ‘KHAO YAI NATIONAL PARK’. It was the very first national park created in Thailand. Still today, it shelters wildlife as bears, elephants, wild buffalos, tigers, small mammals as monkeys, deer, wild pigs and a huge variety of birds and insects. Covering an area of more than 2000 Sq meters, it is partly covered by rainforest, grasslands and mountains, featuring some beautiful waterfalls and superb landscapes, is it still today one of the most beautiful national parks of the country.
The 3rd highlight of this program is an outstanding valley next to the national park, where grapes have been cultivated since 1989. Thanks to the macroclimate of the area, Shyraz, Chenin Blanc and other ‘cepages’ produced well in the region. In 1994, one of the wine industry pioneers in this region went to Germany to study oenology and viticulture. In 2004 the vineyard was expanded to 80 hectares. In 2006 PB won a silver medal in the AWC Vienna, and the golden medal in 2007. We will bring you to discover the vineyard, to taste wine and have a lunch in the property.
 

PROGRAM

DAY: 1 (Departure everyday)

Meals: LUNCH / DINNER
- 09:00: Pick-up by English speaking guide in your hotel in Bangkok (Downtown) and departure by air conditioned vehicle to Nakhon Rachassima. 
- 12:00: (approximately) Arrival in Nakhon Rachassima – Short sighteeing of the center of the city (Inside the walls).
- 12:30: (approximately) Lunch served in the restaurant of the hotel where you will overnight
- 13:30: (approximately) Departure for the Phimai Historical Park.
- 14:30 Visit the Prasart Hin Phimai – Visit the Phimai National Museum (if open – sometimes for unknown reason, the museum is closed without pre-advice - In such a case, we would replace this visit by other site in the area)
- 16:30: (approximately) Road to your hotel – Dinner – Overnight
 

DAY 2 

MEALS: BREAKFAST / LUNCH/ DINNER
 
Hearty breakfast in the hotel. 
- 08:30: Your guide will pick you up at the lobby of the hotel and will escort you to the Khao Yai national park. You will first stop at a view point to admire the landscape, then, you will start a soft 3 hours trek into the jungle escorted by a ranger.  During this trek, you will stop at the observation tower of Nong Phak Chi. You will end this part at lunch time (picnic lunch) before pushing forward by car towards Haew Suwat Waterfall… You will here again walk through the jungle with your guide and ranger to admire other waterfalls nearby.
- 17:00: Embark on your car and go back to your hotel for freshen up, dinner and come back to the national park for a short night safari in order to spot nightlife… If you are lucky you might see some animals, but this is never granted
- 21:00: Road back to your hotel – Overnight
 

DAY 3 

MEALS: BREAKFAST / LUNCH
 
Hearty breakfast in the hotel. 
- 09:00: Departure for a visit of the PB Valley vinery, followed by visit of the installations and wine tasting
- 12:30: Lunch will be served at the restaurant Great Hornbill Grill
- 13:30: Road back to Bangkok – A halt at the farm Chockchai can be organized to enjoy an ice cream (optional not included) and use the restrooms facilities
- 17:00: (approximately) drop off at your hotel downtown Bangkok or at Bangkok airport - End of program
