This River Cruise with pick-up and drop-off in Bangkok takes you to the highlights of the River Kwai and the Thai jungle in the west.

\r\nThis tour includes many visits along the route, including the famous \\\'\'Bridge over River Kwai\\\'\' and a number of testimonies of WWII. Highlights include a visit to the Thai-Burmese Railway Centre and the Hellfire Pass.

PROGRAM (Departures on Mondays)

DAY 1

\r\n

Meals: - / L / D

-               7am Pick-up in main hotels in downtown Bangkok and departure by air-conditioned coach to Kanchanaburi               

\r\n

-               Stop on the way to visit the highest Chedi in Thailand called “Phra Pathom Chedi” (also the largest pagoda in Southeast Asia)

\r\n

-               Visit the ‘Khao Noi Cave Temple’ (Wat Tham Khao Noi) located on the west bank of the River Kwai
\r\n                The monastery was constructed on a hill, decorated in Chinese style

\r\n

-               The journey continues up to Kanchanaburi. Stop to visit the JEATH War Museum. It features a realistic depiction of life in a prisoner camp, giving us a good idea of the harsh and cruel living conditions, p.o.w had to go through

\r\n

-               You will embark on RV River Kwai at \\\'\'Nong Ya\\\'\' dock

\r\n

-               Lunch on board while cruising smoothly Kwai Noi River

\r\n

-               Stop at ‘Wat Tham Khaopoon’ and visit this Buddhist temple, which was used during WWII as a prisoner camp. Admire the middle cave containing stalactites and stalagmites and many remarkable Buddha images. Behind the temple, enjoy a marvelous view down on the valley

\r\n

-               Visit the ‘Somdet Phra Sri Nakharin Park’, located in the ‘Kanchanaburi Agriculture College’. This place is known as "Stone Garden", covering 200 rai (96 acres)

\r\n

-               Return to the boat and continue the journey upriver to ‘Wang Pla Moo’ bridge

\r\n

-               Dinner on board

\r\n

-               Overnight

\r\n

 

\r\n

DAY 2

\r\n

Meals: B / L / D

\r\n

-               Breakfast on board, while cruising smoothly upriver, towards ‘Muang Singh’

\r\n

-               Visit of the historical park sheltering the ‘Prasat Muang Singh’ (Khmer temple from the late Lopburi

\r\n

period 700-800 years ago). The ruins of this temple, remind us how big was the Khmer Empire, and how widespread it was, far away from Cambodia

\r\n

-               Continue the journey by coach to ‘Thakilen’ Train Station

\r\n

-               Go on a ride on board the old local train to ‘Saphan Tham Krasae’, passing over the long wooden viaduct

\r\n

-               Arrival at ‘Saphan Tham Krasae’ - visit the ‘Krasae Cave’ located on the banks of the river (great point of view - the cavern shelters a Buddha image)

\r\n

-               Continue by coach, with a short stop at ‘Sai Yok Elephant Village’, located on the right bank of Kwai Noi River (Optional: half an hour elephant riding through the jungle and along the ‘Kwai Noi’ river – 300Thb per person)

\r\n

-               Lunch on board while cruising upriver & Afternoon is fully at leisure (Optional: 1 hour Thai traditional massage – 500Thb per person)

\r\n

-               Dinner and overnight on board near the ‘Resotel’ (Optional: 45 minutes Mon dances performance 150Thb per person)

\r\n

DAY 3

\r\n

\r\n

-               Breakfast on board

\r\n

-               From the landing stage, walk uphill to visit ‘Kaeng Lava Cave’, which eatures admirable stone draperies

\r\n

and superb concretions in large chambers

\r\n

-               Cruise upriver to ‘Ban Haad Ngiu’, followed by a short journey by coach to ‘Hell Fire Pass’, (stony mountain cut by prisoners of war, to lay tracks of the Death Railway)

\r\n

-               Return to boat and lunch while cruising upriver

\r\n

-               Journey to ‘Sai Yok Yai’ waterfalls. The afternoon is at leisure on the boat

\r\n

-               Stop for a visit at a school nearby the banks of ‘Kwai Noi’ river, which was built to welcome refugee’s children

\r\n

-               Back on the boat and carry on cruising smoothly upriver

\r\n

-               Farewell Dinner and overnight on board at ‘Daowadueng Bridge’

\r\n

 

\r\n

DAY 4

\r\n

Meals: B / L / -

\r\n

-               Optional early morning start (7am) to offer food to monks (gaining merits, according to Thai tradition) at a temple in the vicinity

\r\n

-               Breakfast on board

\r\n

-               Disembark and go back to Kanchanaburi by coach

\r\n

-               On the way, a stop to visit the Thailand-Burma Railway Center Museum and visit the ‘Donrak War Cemetery’, where 6,982 allied prisoners of war were buried who died during the construction of the “Death Railway”

\r\n

-               Journey continues to the world famous \\\'\'Bridge over the River Kwai\\\'\' which was a crucial part of the Death Railway (The bridge was afterwards destroyed during allied bombing raids, by the end of World War II but  later rebuilt by the Japanese, as war reparations)

\r\n

-               Lunch at ‘River Kwai’ Restaurant, next to the bridge

\r\n

-               End journey by air-conditioned coach to Bangkok

\r\n

-               Arrival in Bangkok and transfer to your hotel or to Bangkok Airport (around 6pm)
