The ‘Sip Song Pan Na’ is a mythical territory cherished by Thai people since it is the territory of TAI LUE peaceful minority. Sip Song Pan Na means 12.000 rice fields (traditional old way of counting the extent of a territory (cf: Lanna = 1.000.000 rice fields).

‘Sip Song Pan Na’ administratively exists in South China. It is better known under its Chinese name ‘Xishuangbanna’, which is a subdivision of southern Chinese province of Yunnan. It hosts among other ethnic minorities, Kamu, Jino, Akha, and a subdivision of ‘Dai’ ethnic community, or the ‘Tai Lue’.

Actually if ‘Sip Song Pan Na is administratively in China, Tai Lue people have partly migrated to Northern Lao, Northern part of Thailand Northeastern part of Myanmar and Northern Vietnam. This community counting more than 670.000 people (only 250.000 living in China) is mainly fixed all around the Golden Triangle, which is the Thai gateway to Sip Song Pan Na.

Tai Lue language is similar to Thai language (mainly as it is spoken in Northern Thailand) – Habits of this minority are quite similar as well, wherever they might live, either in China, Myanmar, Lao or Thailand. They are Theravada Buddhists, farmers, and specialists in making silver jewels. They are very peaceful people.
