Koh Yao Noi is an island situated in the hearth of the Bay of Phang-Nga, in Southern Thailand, between Phuket Island and Krabi province. Landscapes are a blend of mountains topped with tropical jungle, cultivated plain and hills, mangrove and tropical beaches. The main activity of the island is fishery, traditionally performed.
 
Fishermen defend fiercely their environment and the ecological equilibrium of the whole bay. Thanks to their pugnacity and bravery during their recent past, inhabitants of the island have convinced the local authorities to vote a moratorium on industrial dragnet fishery which once participated to the destruction of sea life in the whole bay. The island remained long preserved from tourism, fashions and passage, like frozen in time… These last years, some hotels have been built, but it remains though protected from mass tourism. It lives at the very pace of its inhabitants. No violence, no criminality and a preserved environment.
 
Inhabitants live according to the principles of auto-sufficiency. Hence, community based tourism helps them to durable their life model thanks to this additional revenue. It contributes as well fixing the new generations on the island, who don’t feel any longer the necessity of migrate to Phuket for economical reasons. They keep intact their spirit of solidarity, their respect to the nature and their traditions, and they avoid falling into the many traps or our consuming societies, namely the ‘individualism’.  

PROGRAM

DAY 1: (Daily departure)

Meals: - / L / D  
- Meet and greet early morning at Phuket airport (arrival at latest at 09h00 AM) – Transfer towards Bangrong pier – Transportation by public boat to the island of Koh Yao Noi
- Arrival on the island, welcome on the pier and transfer to the Community House – Short briefing about your program.
- Transfer to the home where you will accommodate during your stay – Greeting and accommodation in your room – Lunch is served in your hosts’ home.
- During the afternoon, you will discover the island – Stop en route a the different workshops of local handicraft and also to some of the local industries places – Stop at the mangrove and rice fields – Stop at the rubber trees plantations – Stop at the western pier of the island to admire the sunset on the bay of Phang-Nga – Back to your hosts’ home – Dinner – Evening at leisure - Overnight. [During the evening, you will select one handicraft or agriculture activity that you have visited during the afternoon and to which you will participate later during your stay.]
 

DAY 2:

Meals: B / L / D
- Early wake-up call (with the sun) – Breakfast and morning toilet – Departure by long tailed boat for a full day fishing and discovery of the bay of Phang-Nga
- During the morning, you will see how fishermen throw nets – Lunch on a desert beach in the bay - Beginning of the afternoon, discovering of the bay followed by the nets’ harvesting – Back to the Island – Sale of the fishes at the local market – Back to your hosts’ home – By end of the afternoon, you will learn some local cuisine recipes - Dinner – Evening at leisure - Overnight
 

DAY 3:

Meals: B / L / D
 
- Early wake-up call (with the sun) – Breakfast and morning toilet – Departure to the place you have selected to perform either handicraft or agriculture activity – By the end of the morning, you will take a long tailed boat and go to the Bay – Discovering of the fauna and flora of the bay – Lunch on a desert beach in the bay - Afternoon swimming and snorkeling in the bay - Back to the Island – Stop en route at a local fishes and lobsters farm – Back to your hosts’ home – End afternoon at leisure – Farewell dinner at the Community House – Overnight.
 
 
 

DAY 4:

Meals: B / - / -
 
- Breakfast and morning toilet – Farewell to your hosts – Departure for the pier (on Koh Yao Noi) – End of the program (Guests remain free to take the public transportation to Phuket or Krabi likewise - To be organized and purchased on the spot)

 

 

 

REMARK:

 
 
-       This program is accessible to those landing at Phuket Airport, by the first flight arrival – Pick-up of the guests is scheduled early morning.
-       One pre-night can be booked in Phuket (Consult us for the conditions)
-       Transfers, both in and out can be adapted (Consult us for the conditions)
-       According to the weather conditions and for safety reasons, this program will be adapted if necessary and the following order of the activities might subsequently be amended.
-       Accommodation at hosts’ home is simple and sometimes really basic. You can sleep on mats laid on the floor, in a common room or have a separated room provided with mattress. Sanitations are simple, as locals use to have in their home (Big tank full with cold water from which one takes bucket of water to shower oneself – Toilets might be squat or Turkish style)
-       Population on Koh Yao Noi is mainly Muslim. Islam in Thailand is flexible and tolerant. Inhabitants of the Island are welcoming and do understand Western people have their own uses and habits. However, guests are asked to follow and respect some of the local rules.
o    1) No alcohol is allowed in hosts’ home, at the Community House or during the activities
o    2) Married couples sleep together (mainly in a separated sleeping room), Non married couples sleep separately (men with men and girls with girls)
o    3) Guests are asked o understand that some principles of morality prevail on the Island. They are asked to respect this point (decent dresses are requested)
o    4) This program is not a bargain for adventurers or low budget back packers… Aim of this program is to put in contact individuals from different backgrounds and to promote mutual respect and mutual understanding.
